Thank you so much for considering a donation or joining us in our walk to help raise funds for the Oasis program in Kingston, Ontario. I want to share why supporting Oasis means so much to me — and why I’ve chosen to walk and raise funds for this incredible program.

Oasis is a community-powered movement that helps older adults stay active, connected, and thriving right in their own homes and communities. It started over 15 years ago right here in Kingston and was co-created by older adults themselves. That’s what makes Oasis so special — it’s designed with older adults, for older adults.

At its heart, Oasis is about helping people age well — not in isolation, but in community. It brings together people living in the same apartment building or neighborhood — what’s called a Naturally Occurring Retirement Community — and gives them the tools, support, and space to stay healthy and engaged.

Oasis focuses on three powerful pillars: physical activity, good nutrition, and social connection. That might sound simple, but when these things are consistent and accessible, they can completely change someone’s quality of life. Shared meals, fitness classes, card games, creative workshops — they aren’t just activities; they’re lifelines.

I joined the Oasis team at Queen's University in Kingston nearly 4 years ago. In that time, I've seen first-hand how this program can prevent loneliness, boost confidence, and build strong and supportive communities. It’s not just feel-good — it’s backed by solid research and it works. 

What’s more, there is no membership fee for this program, which is why fundraising is so important. Every dollar we raise helps cover things like program supplies, shared meals, and the amazing coordinators who make it all possible.

So, I'm walking to support aging with dignity, purpose, and connection. And I hope you’ll join me, every step of the way.
