Once again, WMB on the Move is very excited to be in the RIDE and fundraising together for COMPASS Refugee Centre!  This year the challenges that refugees face are perhaps greater than ever.  With the political and social climate changing so that there is more resistance to welcoming the stranger in our midst, there's such a need to support organizations like COMPASS. As well, changing public policy and public perception have had a big impact on COMPASS’ ability to raise funds. This year's RIDE is not only COMPASS’ big annual campaign, but is essential to resourcing its work.  When you join WMB on the Move or donate, here are some ways funds can help:

-- Support for staff who help asylum seekers with their claims but continually come up against barrier after barrier when navigating frustrating bureaucracy.  COMPASS needs to advocate for itself just to get things done. 

-- Advocacy against Bill C2, which if passed as currently written will be a disaster for claimants as it will prevent thousands upon thousands from seeking Canada’s protection. 

-- Help the Border Clinic to do much needed work to provide accurate information to those in the US who want to come to Canada via exceptions to the Safe Third Country agreement. 

Join the team to raise funds, or donate so that COMPASS can continue to assist those claiming asylum in a system where the rules keep changing, accompany them to adapt to and integrate into Canadian life, and advocate for itself and refugees to improve the immigration system, not only this year but well into the future!
