Solid Organ Transplant in BC
Amount Raised
Fundraising Goal $250,000.00

Our Message

Patients, Family and Friends who have been touched by the gift of a second chance of life, have worked with the Doctors and Nurses at VGH to identify the needs for future patients and families.  Each 'team member' shown below represents an immediate need that you can direct your funds to, or you can donate to the general Transplant Fundraising Fund, which will be directed to one of the initiatives lacking funds.  Once a "team member" goal is reached, that initiative will be placed in motion and the equipment purchased and used immediately.  ALL funds donated will be used in the Transplant Recovery Wards, Pre and Post Transplant Clinic, and/or Operating Room towards Organ Transplant care at VGH.

VGH supports all residents of British Columbia, and is one of only three hospitals in the Province conducting Organ Transplants (the others being BC Children's and St. Paul's).  Of the 346 Organ and Stem Cell Transplants performed in 2013, 199 of them were performed at VGH. VGH specializes in transplants of the Liver, Pancreas, Pancreas Islets, Lungs, and Kidneys.

We appreciate any donation amount to ensure the advancement of transplants and the increased level of care provided to patients, families and friends at VGH.  If you are unable to donate monetary amounts at this time, we encourage you to register to be a donor at, give blood at Canadian Blood Services, and to share this link with others.  Thank you.

Patients are admitted to VGH for all solid organ transplantation (SOT) either electively (kidney and liver) or emergently (pancreatic islet, liver, pancreas, kidney, lung). SOT accesses the pre-admission clinic, perioperative care centre, ORs, and post-anesthesia care unit for our transplant patients. Live donors (renal/liver) are also followed postoperatively by our pre-transplant program.

Once a client is placed on the transplant list, then VGH provides access to services when a donor is found. The SOT team follows clients for the duration of their treatment to ensure smooth integration of services. The inpatient and outpatient SOT team members ensure that the most appropriate SOT team member is coordinating services and establishing SOT program linkages for the client. Post-transplant care is provided by VGH inpatient and outpatient SOT health team members and by regional programs throughout the province.

The interdisciplinary SOT team is composed of a program physician, nurse, social worker, dietician, psychologist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, patient services coordinator, care management lead, pharmacist, and psychiatrist. The outpatient team is comprised of five nurses (each specializing in a specific type of transplant), physicians, social workers and dieticians.
