I am organizing this event with my father (Humphrey) and aunt (Marcy) to support Sunnybrook to raise money for brain cancer research. In May of 2017, my mother Mandy Tarder-Kadaner, passed away from Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM), the most common form of brain cancer, which is currently terminal and incurable. This is the same type of brain cancer that Gord Downie (of Tragically Hip) passed away from. The median survival time for GBM is just under 15 months.  There has been and continues to be tremendous effort to develop new and improved treatments to help GBM  patients 'buy more time', and perhaps eventually even find a cure. However, GBM is a very challenging type of cancer, which is why there hasn't been a new drug approved to treat it in more that a dozen years. For perspective, for a drug to be approved to fight GBM, that drug only needs to demonstrate the potential to extend average survival time by a mere 2 months. That is why I, my father and aunt, want to help raise funds for brain cancer research, as we hope these MARCH FOR MANDY & BRAIN CANCER RESEARCH funds will help bring more hope and perhaps offer more time to other patients and families facing a similar fight.

Funds raised will go toward Sunnybrook's cutting-edge brain cancer research. Together we can help make a difference and work towards winning the battle against GBM and all forms of brain cancer. 

WALK DETAILS

The ‘MARCH FOR MANDY’ will take place on October 14, 2018, beginning at 9:00 am.

The ‘MARCH FOR MANDY’ will take place on the Kay Gardner Beltline, which was Mandy’s favourite place…a place where she literally went walking and running thousands of times over the years.

The walk will begin at 9:00 am, across the street from the Larry Grossman Memorial Arena parking lot (it is a sad coincidence that Larry Grossmans died 20 years prior to Mandy, from the same form of brain cancer: GBM).

The walk will cover a distance of 5 kilometres on the Kay Gardner Beltline, and the walk will pass by a bench on the Beltline that Mandy’s family dedicated in her honour, and will also pass by a tree on the Beltline Mandy’s girlfriend’s dedicated in her honour.
