Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)

This 2-day (15-hour) workshop is for anyone who wants to feel more comfortable, confident and competent in helping to prevent the immediate risk of suicide. Just as “CPR” skills make physical first aid possible, training in suicide intervention develops the skills needed for suicide first aid. ASIST is intensive, interactive and practice-dominated course designed to help caregivers recognize risk and learn how to intervene to prevent the immediate risk of suicide.

Please consider the following before registering for this event:

1. If you are a survivor of an attempt or a survivor of suicide loss within the last 18 months, the topics discussed during training may be very difficult and/or triggering for you.

2. Are you willing to intervene with a person at suicide risk?

3. Is there any reason you would be uncomfortable providing help to a person at risk of suicide?

4. If you are experiencing problems with your mental well-being (e.g., anxiety, depression, insomnia etc.) we recommend you consult with your preferred health care professional before deciding to register for this workshop.

If at any time during your training you are feeling triggered please consult the facilitator(s) or contact 24.7 Crisis Support Peel Dufferin at 905-278-9036 or toll free at 1-888-811-222

Time: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm (End time varies depend on the size of the group)

Location: Community Door Board Room, 601-7700 Hurontario Street, Brampton ON L6Y 4M3
