Often, prior to purchasing their home, Habitat partner families are living in housing that was in need of major repairs. Habitat homes are quality, basic homes built to code, are energy efficient and economical to maintain. Your donation provides that stable support to a local hard-working family.

A lot happens around a kitchen sink. When your provide one for a Habitat home, your gift goes toward making sure that a parent doesn’t have to choose between paying a bill or purchasing food for their growing children. By providing geared-to-income mortgage payments, Habitat ensures families aren’t putting too much of their income toward housing, forcing them to sacrifice in other areas.

There is a sense of security – which is easy to take for granted – knowing that when you flip a switch, the lights will come on. Prior to moving into their Habitat homes, many of our partner families find themselves outside the 30% shelter cost-to-income ratio typically used as a benchmark for housing affordability. This makes it harder to make sure other bills are paid. By supporting Habitat with a donation to provide lighting in a home, you are helping a family break the cycle of poverty through homeownership.

You can help keep a family warm with your generous support. Some Habitat partner families come from housing that had issues with mold, humidity, and poor heating systems. After moving into their Habitat home, with proper insulation and built to code, families report less frequent visits to the doctor, and fewer days of work missed because of illness.

Every child deserves a home from which to explore the world. By providing a window in a Habitat home, you are giving a local family the opportunity to see themselves in a better neighbourhood. The vast majority of Habitat partner families report their new Habitat neighbourhood as safer, better for children, friendlier and more convenient than where they had lived previously.
