The Montreal Centre of Canadian Hadassah-WIZO (CHW Montreal) is very proud to be selling the 14th printing of "A Treasure For My Daughter".

"A Treasure For My Daughter" belongs in the home of every Jewish family - and in the hands of every gourmet cook interested in traditional Jewish recipes. Initiated in the 1940s by the members of the Ethel Epstein Ein Chapter of Canadian Hadassah-WIZO, its first publication was launched in 1950, and was written especially to answer the questions of young Jewish women who want reliable advice on how to carry out traditional practices - and how to learn to “cook just like Mother.” However, it continues to be an invaluable source of information for anyone interested in the traditional practices and recipes.

In the form of a conversation between a mother and her daughter who is about to be married, the book covers all the important aspects about homemaking in a straightforward fashion. The volume does not pretend to carry authority in doctrine but is rather a guide to current practice in the modern Jewish home.

Many questions are answered such as, "What preparations are required for Rosh Hashanah? Yom Kippur? Passover? Why two challahs on Sabbath Eve? Are candles lit on Purim? Simchat Torah? What are the blessings, rituals, and ceremonies for each occasion? What is the history behind the rituals? What are the traditional menus and recipes pertaining to the various holidays? What preparations must be made for marriage, Bar or Bat Mitzvah, circumcision? What is Canadian Hadassah-WIZO?" There is a 25-year calendar of Jewish Holidays and a section for recording important family anniversaries and birthdays.

This new 14th printing of "A Treasure For My Daughter" still contains the same charm and information that characterized the original book, since it was felt that extensive changes would compromise the authenticity of a book that has long been considered an heirloom in many Jewish households. The recipes themselves remain generally untouched.  Some additional information has been incorporated in this printing, to make the book even more useful to the reader. The Blessings chapter now includes a wider variety of prayers, organized in order of the Jewish festivals and life cycle events. As well, a new section respecting Simchat Habat and Bat Mitzvah has been added to the book.

This book is a "treasure" of reference material for every Jewish family and is certain to be passed down from one generation to the next. Enjoy!

Canadian Hadassah-WIZO (CHW) is Canada's leading Jewish philanthropic organization. Sales of "A Treasure For My Daughter" will contribute to CHW's fundraising goals.
