Can I carry anything with me while climbing?
No. This is HANDS-FREE in order to ensure climber safety. Therefore all items MUST be left at the free coat-check or with friends before heading towards the Tower (WWF-Canada volunteers and staff and/or CN Tower staff will not be held responsible for any items left in the coat-check).
- This is a HANDS-FREE climbing event. Climbers are NOT permitted to carry anything up the stairwell, including water bottles, camel packs, backpacks, cell phones, mounted camera devices, digital cameras, MP3 players, iPhones, iPods, other portable music devices and infants/children.
- Hydrating stations will be available just before entering the CN Tower stairwell entrance and a bottle of water will be provided to each climber as they exit the stairwell at the top.
- Fanny packs will be permitted for the purposes of carrying identification, medical devices (i.e. inhalers), and keys ONLY.
- Backpacks/other items should be left at home or placed in the free coat-check near registration in MTCC.
- Listening to music through any portable music device is not permissible while climbing the CN Tower. Non-medical portable electronic devices cannot accompany climbers during the Climb.
- All climbers must wear proper athletic shoes. Climbers will not be allowed to climb in sandals, crocs or other inappropriate footwear.
The ideal climber at WWF's CN Tower Climb for Nature wears running shoes and athletic clothing with nothing in their pockets or tied around their waist. They left their iPod at home and checked their coat and small bag with a snack in the free coat-check which they can pick up after the Climb, along with their free Climb t-shirt and fundraising rewards.

WWF's CN Tower Climb for Nature begins with event day check-in at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC), Hall C, North Building. All climbers must check-in and obtain a timing device and security wristband before heading over to the nearby CN Tower. Your climb begins as soon as you are checked-in!
What time do the Climbs start/finish?
The Public Climb takes place between 6:00am and 10:00am on Saturday, April 16th. All climbers must be checked-in on event day before 10:00am in order to climb. The climb begins as soon as you check-in – first come, first served.

Fundraising pages for all climbs will be open until the end of May 2016.
Can I register on the day of the Climb?
Yes, you can register on the day of the Climb if there are still available spaces, you have the required fundraising minimum AND you check-in on event day before the Climb event time is finished (see Event Details). Remember, space is limited, new climber registrations will depend on availability.
Make sure you bring the applicable fundraising minimum for the Climb you wish to register for. Fundraising rewards are awarded to those who fundraise above the minimum!
However, if you register online you are guaranteed a spot and also gain access to valuable fundraising tools. To aid in a speedy event day check-in on the day of the Climb, we recommend registering online and submitting all donations online before 5:00pm on Friday, April 15th, 2016.
Can Climbers get a waiver in advance?
Yes! A waiver can be downloaded from the bottom of all climb pages in the Resources section.
All climbers who registered online have already accepted the waiver during the registration process. For climbers under 18 years of age, it is assumed a parent or guardian was there to witness the acceptance of the waiver.
For those under 18 registering at the event, you can download the waiver from the bottom of any page under the Resources section. It can be printed off and signed before the event. This way if the parent or guardian is not accompanying the climber they do not have to be present when the waiver is handed in during event day check-in.
Climbers under 12 years of age must be at least 42 inches tall (or 3½ feet) and accompanied by a registered adult climber during their climb.
Climbers who register on the day of the event (if space permits) will have to fill in their information on a pledge form and sign a waiver before they can climb.
Can children climb the CN Tower?
Yes. There is no age restriction, only the height restriction explained below. All registered climbers, regardless of age, are required to raise the fundraising minimums as well.
Climbers under 12 years of age must be at least 42 inches tall (or 3½ feet) and accompanied by a registered adult climber during their climb.
Where can I pick up my fundraising rewards?
Fundraising rewards are our way of recognizing you for all of your support and great fundraising work! They are our way of saying thank-you on behalf of WWF, as well as all species at risk and the habitats they call home.
For Team, Public and Youth climbers, if you are eligible for a fundraising reward, an indicator will be placed on your timing device during event day check-in. After completing the Climb, your fundraising rewards will be available after your climb in the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC), Hall C, North Building. This is our way of recognizing and thanking you for all of your support - on behalf of WWF, as well as all species at risk and the habitats they call home.
Fundraising rewards for fundraising amounts of $2,500 or more may not be awarded at the event. If they are not awarded at the event, they will be mailed to climbers shortly after the Climb.
Who receives a WWF-Canada event t-shirt?
All Team, Public and Youth climbers are entitled to a free Climb t-shirt! You will be able to pick it up near event day check-in after you complete your Climb.
Why are there numbers written on my time card/punch card?
The numbers written on the time cards are climber confirmation numbers. These confirmation numbers will be posted along with each climber’s climb time after event day on this website. If you register online before the Climb you'll also be able to view your results simply by searching for your name.
What is the best way for people to sponsor my climb?
Online donations are by far the best method. Our website is secure and your sponsors will have access to their e-receipts within five business days. Your personal fundraising page will register new donations as soon as they have been made online.
Why does WWF distribute water bottles at the event?
This is our 26th year in partnership with the CN Tower and we have hosted and coordinated this very successful fundraising event for WWF-Canada with their help. The participation for our climb grows every year and our number one priority is the health and safety of our climbers.
Historically, allowing climbers to carry bottled water in secured fanny packs has resulted in:
- Spilled water on the steps, with the overflow falling on the climbers below.
- Dropped water bottles and caps, also falling on climbers below.
Due to the ongoing and critical safety concerns for our climbers, this change in policy was necessary.
As such, we will be providing the following:
- Hydrating stations will be available just before entering the CN Tower stairwell entrance.
- A second water station is located on the Glass Floor and provides water to each climber at the exit of the stairwell at the top of the CN Tower.
- Additional recycling receptacles throughout the event which allow climbers to properly dispose of their water bottles in a manner aligned with our mission.
At this time, using bottled water at the top of CN Tower is the only logistically sound way that we can provide over 5,000+ climbers with hydration at both the Public Climb and the Corporate Team Challenge.
At the base of the Tower, we use a water trailer to hydrate our climbers; water is provided to all climbers in biodegradable cups, instead of water bottles.
Our Sustainability @ Work Committee is always striving to reduce our event footprint and these measures reflect our commitment to saving the environment.

What is the best way for people to sponsor my climb?
Online donations are by far the best method. Our website is secure and your sponsors will have access to their e-receipts within five business days. Your personal fundraising page will register new donations as soon as they have been made online.
What do I do with cash donations?
Do not mail cash donations!!
For cash (or cheques made out to you), simply donate to your own campaign using your credit card and keep the cash. By doing this, on the day of the Climb, your event day check-in will be sped up because you won’t have any cash to hand in because you did it all online! Also, enter your donor’s email address and their tax receipt to be immediately sent out.
By entering all of the information online you also help keep administrative costs down for WWF.
To enter cash donations, there are two options:
- Go to your personal fundraising page and click the Donate Now button. During the donation process make sure to put in your sponsor’s information and use your own credit card.
- Log into your fundraising dashboard and click Manage Cash and Cheques on the left-hand menu. From here you can enter your donor’s information as a pledge, then click the Pay link beside it and use your credit card.
For money orders or cheques (made payable to ‘WWF-Canada’), you can mail in these donations with a pledge form (pledge forms can be downloaded from the bottom of any page under the Resources section) to the address below.
- If you choose this option, WWF greatly appreciates if you log into your personal fundraising page on the left-hand menu. Once you are logged in, click Manage Cash and Cheques on the left-hand menu. From here you can enter your donor’s information as a pledge. The pledge will appear in your personal fundraising total on your personal fundraising page. This also helps keep administrative costs down for WWF.
- When mailing in donations, you can write one cheque to cover all of your donations. Don't forget to include all of your sponsors’ mailing addresses on your pledge form if they've made a donation of $20 or more or wish to receive a tax receipt. This gives us the correct information to send them their tax receipt.

This gives us the correct information to send them their tax receipt). However, this method may increase the amount of time you’re at event day check-in (as the money will have to be counted) and the time it takes to send out tax receipts to your donors.
- For this option, you can also enter your donations in as pledges using the Manage Cash & Cheques steps above. This will show all of your fundraising on your personal fundraising page (online and offline donations) and helps keep administrative costs down for WWF.
What amount do they have to donate to get a tax receipt?

Is there a minimum I must raise in order to participate in the climb?

For Public and Youth climbers, each individual climber must collect and submit a minimum of $100 to be eligible to climb.

Why fundraise more than the minimum?

If I make a donation to myself (self-sponsor) will I receive a tax receipt and be eligible for fundraising rewards as well?
In compliance with CRA guidelines, if you choose to receive a benefit for your donation, as is the case with fundraising rewards, you may not be eligible for a tax receipt. To ensure that you are eligible for fundraising rewards and receive a tax receipt, please donate to another climber.
What are some examples of receiving fundraising rewards for self-sponsorship and being eligible for a tax receipt?
- When the self-donation is below $2,500 and does not qualify for fundraising rewards greater than $75, a receipt for the full donation amount is issued. This meets the CRA requirement of the benefit received being less than or equal to 10% of the donated amount, and being less than or equal to $75.
- For a climber who self-donates $2,500 and would like to receive the attributable level fundraising reward, the value of the reward value will be deducted from the tax deductible amount.
- For a climber who self-donates $2,500 and would like to receive a tax receipt for the full amount, the fundraising reward is capped at the $75 value (the advantage being less than 10% of the gift amount and less than and equal to $75).
Please note: Fundraising rewards for fundraising amounts of $2,500 or more may not be awarded at the event. If they are not awarded at the event, they will be mailed to climbers shortly after the Climb.

You can do this by logging in to your dashboard.
Do I have to use and edit my personal or team fundraising page?
Once you register online you will have a standard personal fundraising page and a group page if you are registered as a youth group. You can choose to change them and personalize it with photos, videos, a progress thermometer and messages to inspire those driven to your page to sponsor you.
