Peace of mind for Kaitlynn's parents

Every day for the last two years, Kaitlynn boards the school bus and heads to the Pointe-Saint-Charles YMCA close to her home.

Kaitlynn is a 7-year-old student at St-John-Bosco Elementary School in Ville-Émard. Every day for the last two years, when the bell rings at 2:15 p.m., she boards the school bus and heads to the Pointe-Saint-Charles YMCA, close to her home. There, she is welcomed by Jennifer, Marcus, and Alex, facilitators with the Homework Help program. She finishes all of her homework by 4:00 p.m. and then plays active games with her friends until her parents arrive.

"Kaitlynn is more outgoing and less shy than she used to be. She has definitely improved her French and her reading skills since joining," says Charlotte, her mother.

Charlotte also mentions Kaitlynn's 14-year old brother, Kyle who has been coming to the YMCA since the age of 5! A former participant in the Homework Help program, he now hangs out in the Youth Zone and volunteers at the Member Services desk every Saturday morning. It's important for Charlotte and her husband to know that their children have "a safe place to go, a place where they can learn and get support in working through their difficulties." They also want to be sure that their eldest "is not hanging out on the streets and being bullied."

Finally, Charlotte says: "Kaitlynn gets all the help she needs here. It's been very helpful since we are both at work. She loves coming to the YMCA. It's a real joy!"
