FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Abilities Centre all about?

We are a charitable organization and community hub dedicated to enhancing quality of life and citizenship by offering programs in health and wellness, sports and recreation, arts and culture, and life skills in a community environment that embraces people of all abilities, ages and backgrounds.

Our goal is to be the world’s most accessible, inclusive and barrier-free community hub and a model of inclusion for other communities. We also educate and inform people, through research and innovation, on the need to celebrate the diverse backgrounds and conditions from which we all come.

Why are you having a fundraising campaign?

Abilities Centre is a registered charity and raises funds from a variety of sources to deliver on our mission. While we generate some revenue from memberships and program fees, we rely on the generosity of a variety of funders to ensure we offer the highest-quality programming possible and grow the impact of our mission.

What does “YOU CAN” really mean?

We think everyone has something to offer and we are inspired by helping others to discover their potential in the ways that are most important to them. Because we think that everyone, no matter who they are, has the power to make their lives and their community better. Through your support, you are helping others find their strength!

How does the matching gift component of the campaign work?

All gifts of $100 or more that we raise from the community will be matched by a generous donor up to a total of $200,000 in total. Of course, not everyone has the capacity to give $100, and any gifts of any denomination for the campaign will be gratefully accepted.

What a great idea! How can I host my own fundraising event or set up a fundraising page?

You are amazing, and we are delighted to help! If you are looking for fundraising event ideas or would like to start your fundraising page to share with friends and family, please contact Shannon Wilson at 905-665-8500 x107 or swilson@abilitiescentre.org.
