About Us

The YMCA Walk of Life is an annual 5 km, 3 km and 1 km family fun walk in support of cardiac health and rehabilitation. Join us for this fun community event and help create awareness about cardiovascular health and raise important funds to ensure everyone has access to important programs like the YMCA Healthy Heart Program.

History of the YMCA Walk of Life

The YMCA has been proudly offering the YMCA Walk of Life in partnership with the Cardiac Health Foundation since 2009 as a part of their National Walk of Life Campaign. It has been enthusiastically supported and organized by volunteers and staff at the YMCA Healthy Heart program, raising much needed funds to provide subsidies for those who cannot afford the full cost of this life-enhancing program, as well as to help key the program affordable for all participants.

Over the years, the YMCA Walk of Life has grown from 97 participants to over 250 participants. The event brings the community together for a fun-filled day outdoors and includes activities for the whole family. The YMCA Walk of Life has received media coverage from local press like Snapd Coquitlam and the Mayor of Coquitlam has attended the YMCA Walk of Life to show his support.

The Cardiac Health Foundation of Canada is happy to have the YMCA of Greater Vancouver participating in and benefiting from the national Walk of Life campaign.

YMCA Healthy Heart Program

The YMCA Healthy Heart program has been helping people take an active role in improving their health for more than 42 years. It is a cardiac prevention, rehabilitation and maintenance program that supports people living with cardiac risk through education and supervised exercise.

The program serves over 500 participants each year by providing cardiac rehabilitation classes in Coquitlam, East Vancouver, New Westminster, Maple Ridge, Port Moody and Surrey, and was recently extended to the community of Chilliwack.
