'Tis the season...

...to bring out the holiday decorations and plan what gifts to give your family and friends.

We all want to give something special, something that is unique and memorable. Wouldn’t it be nice to give one gift that was all these things, something to symbolize the true meaning of the season?

This year you can.

Every year, The Children’s Wish Foundation, British Columbia & Yukon Chapter shares the story of a special child. This year our wish child is five-year-old Maia. Maia's story is one of strength and courage.

Her first open heart surgery was at five-days-old and with two palliative surgeries later, at six months and three-years-old respectively, five-year-old Maia is now looking forward to her most heartfelt wish.

Maia’s wish is to visit Walt Disney World to see her favourite Disney characters from Cars, Toy Story and all the wonderful princesses. What better wish for a young girl whose vivid imagination has been channeled into activities like drawing and writing to get ready for “big school.”

Diagnosed at birth in 2006 with complex Congenital Heart Disease, specifically Unbalanced Atrial Ventricular Septal Defect. In her short life Maia has had to bear numerous hospital visits and procedures and learn to live with the symptoms that result from her illness.

“My daughter has endured so much in her little life,” explains Maia’s mother, Yarrow, “she deserves any opportunity to experience joy and excitement.”
