Name your Strachan Hall table or chair now!

For decades, food service in Strachan Hall has been limited by the size of the kitchen. Food preparation and food service have taken place within the same space, causing severe crowding in the serving area. Over the years, it has also resulted in the gradual movement of a salad bar, a coffee station and dirty-dish racks into the dining hall itself, detracting from the beauty of Strachan Hall and the pleasure of the dining experience.

In the new kitchen, food preparation will take place one floor below ground level, and the prepared food will move up via a dumbwaiter to a spacious, open-concept servery laid out with multiple serving stations. A greater variety of fresh and nutritious food options will be available and presented in a more appealing way. The entire kitchen will be outfitted with the most modern, high-efficiency equipment to minimize energy use. And the enlargement of the servery will allow the elements that have crept into the hall to be returned to the kitchen.

The newly-transformed kitchen and servery will provide the Trinity community with a dining experience that will rank with the very best on campus.

To achieve this goal, Trinity is offering alumni and friends the opportunity to permanently name a chair or a table in Strachan Hall. This is an ideal way for you to have your name visibly connected with the centre of student life at Trinity or to honour a friend or family member. Names will be inscribed on plaques. The dining room chair plaques will be prominently placed on the back of the chair, and High Table chair plaques will be on the arm of the chair. Table plaques will be affixed at the mid-point of the side edges so as to be visible on both sides of the table. There are 240 dining room chairs and 24 student tables available for naming. Also available for naming are the three tables that make up the High Table, 12 High Table chairs, and the round table at the Oriel Window.
