Moot Court is the fastest growing experiential learning activity for undergraduate students today. Over 400 undergraduate teams compete across the United States in moot court. St. Thomas University's Human Rights Program is proud and excited to be able to offer this opportunity, one of the only of its' kind in Canada.
“We’ve built this reputation that St. Thomas is a school that can go
and compete with American schools, so I think that’s something we all
try to live up to.” ~Jarrod Ryan, BA '19
“It is amazing, rewarding, and humbling to have a bid to nationals.
We have put in many hours of work, and to see it pay off is surreal.
It’s a culmination of teamwork and mutual support among the whole
group.” ~Camille Xavier, BA '19

Thank you for your support!
Launched in 2014 by Dr. Amanda DiPaolo, BA’01 Moot Court has grown
into a sought-after and highly successful program. Dr. DiPaolo, Director
of the Human Rights program and executive board member of the American
Collegiate Moot Court Association, built Moot Court into the fastest
growing experiential learning activity for undergraduate students today.
St. Thomas is proud to be one of the first Universities in Canada to
offer such a program. It was a record year for Moot Court
at St. Thomas University. The team was highly decorated this season at
nationals, finishing 9th out of 432 teams that competed across the USA,
placed third in the written brief competition, and had four students win
speaker awards. For the first time in the program’s history,
six teams qualified for the American Moot Court National
Championships—the maximum number of teams any university can send is
eight—while a seventh STU team traveled to the championships in Dallas,
Texas, as an alternate. The summer of 2017, STU students became
the first-ever Canadian team to win the Nelson Mandela World Human
Rights Moot Court Competition. The team of six qualified by submitting a
legal brief and two students attended the competition in Geneva. They
went head-to-head against Yale, beating them in the first round, and
edged Oxford out on points. They mooted against the University of Buenos
Aires, winning the final round and finishing #1 out of 38 schools. As
this program grows so does its financial needs. To ensure our students
can remain competitive and continue to represent St. Thomas, New
Brunswick and Canada on the North American and international stage
