“I was in shock and disbelief. Heart surgery? I was too young.”
-Rhonda Scholtz, Grateful Patient
Rhonda always felt a shortness of breath while exercising, but never sought treatment. It wasn’t until a biking accident where she was admitted to the hospital and doctors noticed her blood pressure was high.
Test results revealed one of Rhonda’s main heart arteries was completely blocked.
Dr. Bob Kiaii, Chair/Chief of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), was able to perform life-saving, minimally invasive surgery on Rhonda. This meant smaller incisions and faster recovery – getting her back to her loving husband, Kent, and two young children, Jeff and Jenny.
Rhonda’s surgery was on a Wednesday, by Saturday she was at home with her family by her side, and by Monday she was playing with her kids and working out at the gym.
This Valentine’s Day, spread your love and make a gift to cardiac care to help deliver extraordinary care to patients and families like Rhonda’s.
