NEEMA'S STORY
“My father was killed during the war. Because of the war I was separated from my mother and my siblings and found myself in this orphanage of Bethsaida Mubambiro Sake.

“I didn’t know who to trust. I thought a lot about my father. I was often angry at the people who started the war and killed my father. I wondered if God really existed; I thought that if He did, why would He allow me to go through all these difficulties? “In the orphanage, I took part in the seminar on trauma healing where I received a Bible. Through the seminar, I realized that I suffered a lot, too. I was always afraid; I jumped at the slightest noise. More importantly, I learned that Jesus can help me find joy and strength to forgive those who killed my father. Our orphanage mom helped me and always encouraged me to confide in God. I started telling Jesus how I felt and read my Bible every day.”

Neema is only one of the casualties of war. In war statistics, victims like her and her family are just numbers, but to us they are lives in need of our Saviour’s healing.

Bring God’s healing Word to hurting people in the Democratic Republic of Congo

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) lies at the very heart of Africa. But inside this heart is a very deep wound – a wound caused by the decade-long conflict known as the Second Congo War which is considered the world’s deadliest war since WWII. One might wonder whether healing is possible when you consider the following facts:

  • Reports cite that the war in Congo caused the deaths of about 5.4 million people – mainly through disease and starvation as a result of the conflict. Estimates suggest that about 45,000 people died each month – that’s more than 1,000 deaths every day.
  • An estimated 2.7 million people were displaced.
  • Nearly 2 million women were raped.
  • Children under the age of 18 were recruited to fight. One of the Congo militia leaders claimed that about 10,000 children were recruited to serve under him.

With God, nothing is impossible. The Bible Society in the Democratic Republic of Congo is witnessing first-hand how lives are healed through God’s Word and expressions of love from the church community.

The Canadian Bible Society is grateful to be a part of this life-changing ministry. With your support, we can ensure that people in DRC – especially children suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder – receive the healing that God offers through His Word.

Here’s what your support can do:

$30 will help 4 hurting children through trauma healing.

$75.00 will bring God’s healing Word to 10 victims of trauma.

$120.00 will bless 16 young adults with God’s Word.

Together, let us help bring God’s healing Word to a generation traumatized by unspeakable violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo – one person at a time.
