Gadsden Street UMC Literacy Mission

Gadsden Street United Methodist Church will be sending a team of 11 people to serve in Costa Rica in 2017.  Throughout the week this team will have the privilege of serving at eight different schools throughout Costa Rica.  Partnering with Give-A-Book foundation, local ministries and Peace Corp volunteers, we will be delivering books to each of these schools.  The schools receiving books have been carefully selected, each demonstrating a great need for these valuable resources.

Kofi Annan (former UN Secretary General) reminds us “Literacy is a bridge between misery and hope.”  The gift of books is something we may take for granted.  Although Costa Rica boasts a robust tourist industry, many there are caught in the relentless cycle of poverty.  Literacy and education provide help and hope beyond poverty.

Our team is comprised of 11 willing workers stepping out in faith, however this mission will represent so many others willing to make their pennies count, investing in God’s kingdom work.  We ask for your prayers.  We invite you to partner with us in this ministry of providing books.  Thank you for helping to make a difference in the lives of these children!
