My Message

The simple reason why I’ve decided to ride in Cycle for Sight for my 2nd year now is because I want to help move the dial forward to give millions of Canadians, who are living with vision loss, access to treatments and cures.

These cures are not currently possible – but I believe the work Fighting Blindness Canada (FBC) does will provide them soon. It’s a big job to do, but there is real momentum and hope with many promising human clinical trials happening around the world.

I am personally inspired by the efforts and contributions to finding a cure from a family I consider an extension of my own, the Morrison's. Many reading this know of my lifelong best friend, Zach. This year, I have officially replaced him as a member of the Morrison family as he thinks that going to a wedding is more important than Cycling For Sight. I will be riding with the rest of his family, including his older brother Gavin, who is legally blind. Gav is a man who is truly admirable, unlike his younger brother. From his early childhood, he has acted as an ambassador and voice for the FBC. As his sight has deteriorated over the years, his class, demeanour, and attitude have remained consistently strong.

As well, Zach's mom Ann has dedicated her career to the foundation. I've witnessed first hand over the years her contributions to the cause and passion for the foundation. Last year, riding alongside their entire family while raising awareness and funding for blinding eye diseases was the first step to my own commitment to the FBC that I hope to support for my lifetime.

That is why I am participating in Cycle for Sight and raising money for the FBC.

I am also inspired by other riders, some who are partially-sighted, who have decided to take action and not sit idly around waiting for something to happen. The commitment that I will be making with FBC and Cycle for Sight is a downhill coasting ride when compared to what faces those like Gav who live with vision loss every day. Help me provide hope by donating today at the link below.

Lastly, if you've made it this far, I sincerely thank you in advance for any contribution you can make to my ride and the FBC and an even bigger thanks to all those that also donated last year! Your continued support has a direct relationship with the research that goes into finding a cure.

Love, Matt.
