Once again, I am participating in the YMCA's Move to Give event. On April 4 I will be joining the Gravenhurst Y's Cycle-A-Thon and will be riding a stationary bike for two hours straight. I am doing this because I have seen first-hand the benefit of YMCA programs:
- I learned to swim at the A.R. Kaufman YMCA in Kitchener (and took magic lessons and a babysitter course, was a member of the teen running and weightlfiting clubs there, too)
- I grew up going to YMCA Camps (first John Island and then Camp Kitchikewana) and worked at Kitchikewana, Geneva Park, RKY and Camp Queen Elizabeth; last year I was one of 20 leaders inducted onto the Camp Kitchikewana's Wall of Distinction as part of the camp's 100th Anniversary (probably the greatest honour of my life)
- Both of my boys have received exceptional care at YMCA child cares, where they have made friends and learned new skills in a caring compassionate environment
I believe that these types of programs and opportunities should be avaialble for everyone. That is why I donate to the Y as my charity of choice each year. In fact, over the years I have donated $21,000 to support the work the Y does to build healthy communities.
Today I am asking you to consider help me build a healthier community for all. If you or your family have been positively impacted by the Y or a YMCA program (camp, swimming, fitness, child care, immigrant services, employment services), please consider making a donation by sponsoring me for next month's Move to Give.
Thank you
