The YWCA WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES fundraising event helps women and their children as they take steps to walk away from family violence. The dollars raised will support the work that the YWCA does to break the cycle of family violence and help keep women and their children safe.

Although family violence is a very serious matter, this fun and light-hearted event asks registered male participants to take a public stand against family violence on  Tuesday September 23, 2014, strap on a pair of heels and walk around Churchill Square to raise awareness and help put a stop to domestic abuse.

All funds raised from this event will help the YWCA provide:

● Subsidized counselling services for those in crisis and survivors

● Lakeside Haven family violence recovery retreats in partnership with women's shelters

Partnerships  with other agencies for coordinated efforts and wrap-around services

● Violence prevention programs | GirlSpace & the Power of Being a Girl Conference

Research shows that junior high and high school violence prevention programs are highly effective. Even years after attending such programs, students experienced long-term benefits such as better dating relationships, the ability to recognize and leave an unhealthy relationship, and increased self-confidence, assertiveness, and leadership. [1]
