What is the difference between the Team Challenge, Public Climb and Youth Group Climb?
The Team Challenge is being held the morning of Sunday, April 26th, 2015 between 6:00am and 10:00am! This event is a competitive climb, both in terms of fundraising and climb speed. A team consists of 4 to 7 climbers. Each team of climbers must collect and submit a minimum average of $150 per team member – for example a team of 4 must raise $600 but 1 member can raise $300, 2 more members can raise $150 each and the last member doesn’t have to raise anything. As long as the team total is $150 multiplied by the number of team members, then your team is eligible to climb! Fundraising rewards are awarded for those climbers that raise above the minimum!

If you have any questions regarding the Team Challenge, please contact Team Challenge Coordinator, Kyla Marshall at kmarshall@wwfcanada.org or 416-489-4567 ext. 7236. We will be glad to assist you.

The Public Climb is being held the morning of Saturday, April 25th, 2015 between 6:00am and 10:00am! This event is for individual recreational climbers of any age. Each climber must collect and submit a minimum of $75 in fundraising on or before the event day in order to be eligible to climb. Fundraising rewards are awarded for those who raise above the minimum!

The Youth Group Climb is a recreational climb designed for groups of 10 or more youth climbers - such as students, community centre clubs, girl guides, boy scouts, youth sports teams and more! These Groups can choose to climb on either the same day as the Public Climb (Saturday, April 25th) or the Team Challenge (Sunday, April 26th). Each group member has the same fundraising minimum ($75) as the Public Climb, however the group total can be averaged across the group members – for example a group of 10 must raise $750 but 1 member can raise $450, 2 more members can raise $150 each and the remaining members don’t have to raise anything. As long as the group total is $75 multiplied by the number of group members, then your group is eligible to climb!

If you have questions about the Youth Groups Climb you can contact our Youth Group Coordinator, Deb Bulman at dbulman@wwfcanada.org or at 416-489-4567 ext. 7291.

Is there a Registration Fee?
To celebrate our 25th CN Tower climb this year there is no mandatory registration fee!

Can I carry anything with me while climbing?
No. This is HANDS-FREE in order to ensure climber safety. Therefore all items MUST be left at the free coat-check or with friends before heading towards the Tower (WWF-Canada volunteers and staff and/or CN Tower staff will not be held responsible for any items left in the coat-check).

The ideal climber in the Canada Life CN Tower Climb wears running shoes and athletic clothing with nothing in their pockets or tied around their waist. They left their iPod at home and checked their coat and small bag with a snack in the free coat-check which they can pick up after the Climb, along with their free Climb t-shirt and fundraising rewards.

Where is the Canada Life CN Tower Climb located?
The Canada Life CN Tower Climb for WWF-Canada begins with registration check-in in Rogers Centre Gate 14. All climbers must check-in at registration and obtain a timing device and security wristband before heading over to the nearby CN Tower. Your climb begins as soon as you are checked-in!

What time do the Climbs start/finish?
The Public Climb takes place between 6:00am and 10:00am on Saturday, April 25th. All climbers must be checked-in at registration before 10:00am in order to climb. The climb begins as soon as you check-in – first come, first served.

The Team Challenge takes place between 6:00am and 10:00am on Sunday, April 26th. All teams must be checked-in at registration before 10:00am in order to climb. The climb begins as soon as you check-in – first come, first served.

Groups in the Youth Group Climb can choose to do their climb either on Saturday, April 25th or Sunday, April 26th between 6:00am and 10:00am – please contact our Youth Group Coordinator, Deb Bulman at dbulman@wwfcanada.org or at 416-489-4567 ext. 7291 to book a time. All groups must be checked-in at registration before 10:00am in order to climb. The climb begins as soon as you check-in – first come, first served.

Fundraising pages for all climbs will be open until the end of May 2015.

Can I register on the day of the Climb?
Yes, you can register on the day of the Climb if there are still available spaces, you have the required fundraising minimum AND you check-in before the Climb event time is finished (see Event Details). Remember, space is limited, new climber registrations will depend on availability.

Make sure you bring the applicable fundraising minimum for the Climb you wish to register for. Fundraising rewards are awarded to those who fundraise above the minimum!

However, if you register online you are guaranteed a spot and also gain access to valuable fundraising tools. To aid in a speedy check-in on the day of the Climb, we recommend registering online and submitting all donations online before 5:00pm on Friday, April 24th, 2015.

Can Climbers get a waiver in advance?
Yes! A waiver can be downloaded from the bottom of all climb pages in the Resources section.

All climbers who registered online have already accepted the waiver during the registration process. For climbers under 18 years of age, it is assumed a parent or guardian was there to witness the acceptance of the waiver.

For those under 18 registering at the event, you can download the waiver from the bottom of any page under the Resources section. It can be printed off and signed before the event. This way if the parent or guardian is not accompanying the climber they do not have to be present when the waiver is handed in during registration check-in.

Climbers under 12 years of age must be at least 42 inches tall (or 3½ feet) and accompanied by a registered adult climber during their climb.

Climbers who register on the day of the event (if space permits) will have to fill in their information on a pledge form and sign a waiver before they can climb.

Can children climb the CN Tower?
Yes. There is no age restriction, only the height restriction explained below. All registered climbers, regardless of age, are required to raise the fundraising minimums as well.

Climbers under 12 years of age must be at least 42 inches tall (or 3½ feet) and accompanied by a registered adult climber during their climb.

Where can I pick up my fundraising rewards?
Fundraising rewards are our way of recognizing you for all of your support and great fundraising work! They are our way of saying thank-you on behalf of WWF, as well as all species at risk and the habitats they call home.

For Team, Public and Youth Group climbers, if you are eligible for a fundraising reward, an indicator will be placed on your time card during check-in.  After completing the Climb, your fundraising rewards will be available after your climb in Rogers Centre. This is our way of recognizing and thanking you for all of your support - on behalf of WWF, as well as all species at risk and the habitats they call home.

Fundraising rewards for fundraising amounts of $2,500 or more may not be awarded at the event. If they are not awarded at the event, they will be mailed to climbers shortly after the Climb.

Who receives a WWF-Canada event t-shirt?
All Team, Public and Youth Group climbers are entitled to a free Climb t-shirt! You will be able to pick it up near registration after you complete your Climb.

Why are there numbers written on my time card/punch card?
The numbers written on the time cards are climber confirmation numbers. These confirmation numbers will be posted along with each climber’s climb time after event day on this website. If you register online before the Climb you'll also be able to view your results simply by searching for your name.

What is the best way for people to sponsor my climb?
Online donations are by far the best method. Our website is secure and your sponsors will have access to their e-receipts within five business days. Your personal fundraising page will register new donations as soon as they have been made online.

Why does WWF distribute water bottles at the event?
This is our 25th year in partnership with the CN Tower and we have hosted and coordinated this very successful fundraising event for WWF-Canada with their help. The participation for our climb grows every year and our number one priority is the health and safety of our climbers.

Historically, allowing climbers to carry bottled water in secured fanny packs has resulted in:

Due to the ongoing and critical safety concerns for our climbers, this change in policy was necessary.

As such, we will be providing the following:

At this time, using bottled water at the top of CN Tower is the only logistically sound way that we can provide over 6,400 climbers with hydration at both the Team Challenge and the Public Climb.

At the base of the Tower, we use a water trailer to hydrate our climbers; water is provided to all climbers in biodegradable cups, instead of water bottles.

Our Sustainability @ Work Committee is always striving to reduce our event footprint and these measures reflect our commitment to saving the environment.

Want to show your support for the planet? Become an event sponsor or donate prizes to the Climb! Contact our Manager of Partner Marketing, Sarah Powell at spowell@wwfcanada.org or 416-489-4567 ext. 7305.

What do I do with cash donations?
Do not mail cash donations!!

For cash (or cheques made out to you), simply donate to your own campaign using your credit card and keep the cash. By doing this, on the day of the Climb, your registration check-in will be sped up because you won’t have any cash to hand in because you did it all online! Also, enter your donor’s email address and their tax receipt to be immediately sent out.

By entering all of the information online you also help keep administrative costs down for WWF.

To enter cash donations, there are two options:

For money orders or cheques (made payable to ‘WWF-Canada’), you can mail in these donations with a pledge form (pledge forms can be downloaded from the bottom of any page under the Resources section) to the address below.

What amount do they have to donate to get a tax receipt?
All donations of $20 or more will get automatically receipted. Upon special request, a tax receipt for smaller amounts can be issued. Please ensure that complete addresses are included either online or on the pledge form and if submitting a pledge form please ensure the writing is legible.

Please contact WWF-Canada at 1-800-26-PANDA (72632) if you would like to receive a tax receipt for donations under $20.

What should I do if one of my donors has not received a tax receipt?
Please contact our Events team at events@wwfcanada.org or 416-484-7700. We will be glad to assist you.

Is there a minimum I must raise in order to participate in the climb?
Yes. All registered climbers must collect and submit the fundraising minimum in order to be eligible to climb.

For Team climbers, each team of climbers must collect and submit a minimum average of $150 per team member – for example a team of 4 must raise $600 but 1 member can raise $300, 2 more members can raise $150 each and the last member doesn’t have to raise anything. As long as the team total is $150 multiplied by the number of team members, then your team is eligible to climb!

For Public and Youth Group climbers, each individual climber must raise a minimum of $75.

For Youth Groups this minimum can be averaged – for example a group of 10 must raise $750 but 1 member can raise $450, 2 more members can raise $150 each and the remaining members don’t have to raise anything. As long as the group total is $75 multiplied by the number of group members, then your group is eligible to climb!

Why fundraise more than the minimum?
Every dollar you raise goes a long way to help WWF protect species at risk and the habitats they call home. WWF is also pleased to offer fundraising rewards for climbers who fundraise above and beyond the minimum. Fundraising rewards are available for climbers who raise more than the fundraising minimum!

Visit our website to see some of the successes that WWF-Canada has been able to accomplish with help from our donors or send the link around to your possible supporters and donors!

On your fundraising dashboard go to Team on the left-hand menu and scroll down to see your group members.

How do I upload a photo or video to add to my personal page?
Log in to your fundraising dashboard and click Dashboard and scroll down to the Images and Videos section. Here you can choose to either upload a picture or a video by selecting the appropriate button and choosing the photo from your computer that you would like on your page. You can upload up to five images and videos in total.

How do I get friends/family to sponsor me in the climb?

  1. You can send them an email with a link back to your page. (see the Fundraising FAQs for info on how to send emails through your dashboard)
  2. Use social media like Facebook and Twitter to share the link to your fundraising page (#CNTowerClimb). Share updates with your networks on the status of your fundraising and training to get them engaged and encourage them to sponsor your Climb.
  3. They can also visit the Canada Life CN Tower Climb website (wwf.ca/cntower) and click on the Donate link at the top of any page. They can then search for your name to find your personal fundraising page.

How do I send a personalized email to potential sponsors?
You can solicit donations from your dashboard. Log in to your fundraising dashboard and click Get Sponsors on the left-hand menu to email someone from your fundraising address book or add a new person to your address book. To add more than one person at a time to your address book, click the Address Book button above the text box on the right side. Once your recipients have been chosen, you can personalize your message. You can also preview your message before you send it.
