Located in East Africa, Tanzania is known for its breathtaking geography and rural regions. Nearly 80% of the population lives in rural communities. Child labour, human trafficking, and sexual exploitation are some of the major factors affecting poor children, especially girls. Since 2014, the country has faced significant drought leading to widespread food insecurity.
100% of mission funds collected will support the communities served by our Neema and Mbinga Sponsor Sites. This will include (not exclusively):
* Connecting the girls' hostel and sisters' facility to the local power grid
* Solar light kits for families of students who do not live at the hostel
* Musical instruments for the students
* Desks and textbooks for a village school at PAN Sub-Site which has very little resources and which we will be able to visit on the mission.
On this mission trip, we will visit the Mbinga and Neema Sites. Our site directors, Sr. Mary Grace Jacob (Neema) and Fr. Cino Thonakkara (Mbinga) have invited Chalice volunteers and staff to engage with the following groups within their communities:
* Sisters of Visitation and Vincentian Fathers
* Sponsor site staff, clinic nurses, and community health workers
* Faith circles (sponsorship beneficiaries)
* Groups involved in microfinance, microenterprise, and food security
* Children at the local schools, an orphanage, and a 4K Club.
On mission, our Canadian and Tanzanian volunteers, staff, and families will:
* share stories and dialogue to learn from one another, and
* collaborate in service projects.
In preparation, our Canadian team will invite others to support our mission by sponsoring a child from Tanzania, and we will collectively raise funds to support the community served by our Mbinga and Neema Sites.
