What is Move for Kids?

It is an exciting annual YMCA of Oakville event which raises money for YMCA Strong Kids Campaign. Participants can register to participate in any event activity taking place at the branch or any childcare locations.

Is there child minding available at the YMCA of Oakville while I participate?

Child minding is provided from 8 am - 12 pm and free of charge for all members as well as for non-members who require care for their young children while they are participating in the event. Please make sure that you indicate that you require child minding when your register Photo ID is required when dropping off and picking up all children.

Where do the classes take place on June 9?

All Cyclefit classes and Cyclefit Team Challenge will take place outdoors should the weather permit. In case of inclement weather, those activities will be held in the studio.

Kick-a-thon will take place in the gym.

My child attends childcare at one of the participating locations- where does it take place?

Megathon will take place indoors and outdoors at the various Childcare Centres throughout the week of June 10-14. Please consult the supervisor at the Childcare Centre for more details.

Parking

Parking is limited for the event. Please call the membership desk at the YMCA of Oakville for parking information. Limited on site disability parking will be available.

REGISTRATION:

How do I register?

All participants must register online at YMCA of Oakville Move for Kids website and at the YMCA of Oakville membership desk.

What makes a Move for Kids classes different from a regular class?

We move our activities outside, invite participants to get dressed up, add fun music and have additional instructors. Plus it is a fundraising event!

How much is the registration fee?

Cyclefit, Cyclefit Team Challenge and Kick-a-thon require individual or team registration. The cost to participate is $25.00 per person.

Megathon there is no registration required, however, the Childcare Centres will be asking families to participate the week of June 10-14, 2019 and to help raise funds by collecting donations through the Megathon site and pledge forms that are available through the childcare centres.

What if I want to bike for more than one hour?

You need to start by registering online for your first hour. Next, you need to send an email to lindsey.hendriks@ymcahbb.ca indicating where you are cycling and what additional hour(s) you would like to bike. You can also contact Lindsey Hendriks at 905-317-4908

When is the registration deadline?

Registration will close on June 7th. The earlier you register the more time you have to fundraise and we have lots to share, so you'll hear from us too.

What should I wear and bring with me on Event Day?

Please wear comfortable clothing for your event, running shoes, bring your water bottle, towel.

Is this a competitive event?

No, it's for fun and most importantly to raise money to help get kids to the YMCA!

Who can participate?

Anyone can register to participate including members, non-members and YMCA staff.

How old do you have to be to participate?

All cycle riders must be at least 4'11 in height and or at least 10 years of age. Any age is welcome for the family activities, however participants under 13 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

How does the Cyclefit Team Challenge work?

Create a team of up to 6 individuals – and take turns riding one bike for the session.

Are there teams for Cyclefit?

Yes you can start a team! A team is a group of up to 6 co-workers, neighbors, friends, family, or fellow members. Get a team going and get moving for a great cause.

FUNDRAISING:

Who does Move for Kids benefit?

The event benefits children in the Oakville area who do not have the means in which to participate in the YMCA programs or access our facilities and Childcare Centres.

How do I fundraise?

What do I do with the cheque and cash donations I receive?

If you receive cheque donations, please have donors make them payable to YMCA of Oakville and bring them with you, along with your pledge form to the event on June 9, 2019.

For Megathon, please give all your donations directly to the Childcare Centre that you are affiliated with. Please make all cheques payable to YMCA of Oakville.
